Strengths:Well built, helpful staff nothing was to much trouble for them. They know their product.
Weaknesses:Ill concieved reviews.
Comments:The nit picking from the previous respondent just shows the ignorance of her review. The chair NOT made for her, and she just picked minor faults because the chair Was NOT mde for her. The Bromakin chairs are great as is the service you recieve

Cat from Nottingham, UK submitted this review on October 19th 2008 at 12:09 PM. Cat is an end user who has over a year of experience with the product.
Strengths:* For an aluminium chair, it is very lightweight.
* Rigid box-frame design is very strong and frame doesn't flex excessively so you don't lose pushing energy through 'frame flex'.

-----
Weaknesses:
* It didn't fit me particularly well, BUT, as it wasn't built for me, that's not the manufacturer's fault. Having said that, the seat depth was too short for it's original owner too so an additional strap had to be put in front of the seat sling. This WAS Bromakin's fault.
* The corners of the backrest are suede and, as I have an allergy to suede/leather (because of the tanning agents), the skin on the inside of my upper arms strips and blisters if I am wearing short sleeves.
* The backrest was too low (even for its original owner) and, unless new back posts were purchased, the height could not be raised.
* The Quick-release axle buttons are TINY! I cannot manage them as you've got to use the nail on your little finger to push the button in far enough - the button is about half a centimetre in diameter so impossible for a lot of people. (My arthritic mother cannot manage them either so anyone with dexterity problems won't be able to manage them.)

-----
Comments:
This was my first chair so didn't have much to compare it to at the time. I didn't have anything to do with the manufacturer when it was built. It was well used by its previous owner and (apart from scratches to the paintwork) was in good condition. It's nine years old and has now got a new owner - I've given it to a friend who needs to use a wheelchair and who doesn't have the strength for a heavy NHS loan chair (they use Lomax Uni 8s) so this will be easier for her.

I bought a new pair of brakes from Bromakin as I couldn't use the chair's original brakes (it's original owner had no hand problems so could manage the old style brakes). The new, un-spring scissor brakes are great.

For a second-hand, first chair this was great. It gave me some ideas of what I wanted when I got 'MY' first chair which would be built for me. It saved me from having to have an NHS 'basic' loan chair (Lomax Uni 8) which I'd never have been able to even move as they are so heavy! I used this chair for about two years before I got a proper assessment at Wheelchair Services. I replaced this chair with a "Bromakin Street Classic Ti" ('MY' first chair that was built for me) which I purchased using the NHS Wheelchair Voucher Scheme.

As you can see from my review of the "Bromakin Street Classic Ti", it's not all rosy with Bromakin. I cannot give this chair a great review because of the problems I had with Bromakin with my "Street Classic Ti". If you find a second-hand Bromakin chair which fits you, in my opinion, it is better getting a second-hand one than going to Bromakin for a so-called 'custom-built' chair in light of the six month nightmare (and then three year uncomfortable sitting in it) of my "Bromakin Street Classic Ti" as well as the errors and increased charges for wanting 'non-standard' footplate angle etc! (Yes, they want to charge extra for changing the angle of the inner footplate tube - on a ('so-called') CUSTOM-built chair!) (See my review of the "Bromakin Street Classic Ti" for the whole sorry saga of my experiences of the manufacturer (and not just their chairs)!
