GRACE from JOLIET,IL. submitted this review on February 22nd 2007 at 09:16 PM. GRACE is an end user who has over a year of experience with the product.
Strengths:This chair is amazing! I have had mine since app. 1996, use mostly for standing & social situations. It's great for large groups of people-I can either raise my seat to be closer to eye level or stand. The foot plate is so sturdy, my husband can stand on it, so we can "dance".
Weaknesses:I have had no problems with it ,despite very little maitenance. Perhaps because I'm a casual user & spend most of my time in a manual chair.
Comments:I don't know if it changed, but when I got mine the only instructions I got were typed on 2 sheets of paper. My manual chairs come with better instructions!

Strengths:Good standing mechanism
Can drive wheelchair in standing position
Weaknesses:Breaks down constantly
Replaced motors more than 5 times (Whoever thought about putting a chain type motor was seriously lacking mental function. They are just awful, things get caught in them.)
Changed electronics/joystick once
Does not do well on grass or uneven surfaces, forget going over throw rugs...you're going to take them with you guaranteed.
Has a boxy facade...not a pretty chair
It's a lemon!
Comments:Since I first got this wheelchair back in 2000. It has given me nothing but problems. It is very undependable to the point as I felt I have lost independence rather than gain. Don't get me wrong when the motors don't break down or anything else goes wrong it does what I need and gives me extra mobility, but again I am in fear of it ALWAYS breaking down so I really don't go out with it anymore.
I wouldn't blame falcon for putting this product out there...its not all their fault. Point the figure back at your trusted vender. They should have known better.

Strengths:has a lot of power
Stands you up quickly
very strong floor plate will protect your feet
Weaknesses:drive motors drive gear will!!!! brake off leaving you stranded
do not operate with out phone in pocket chair is garenteed to break down
Comments:frame, wheels very strong.I've had my high rider for 6 years broke nine drive motors four main commputors five joy stick controlers six complete wheel bearing kits including castor swivels.but i still prefer it because there is nothing out there close to it except for the vertran but that don't have much power

Nick from wi submitted this review on September 3rd 2004 at 01:15 PM. Nick is an end user who has over a year of experience with the product.
Strengths:The standing feature eases medical problems and is great for stretching.
Weaknesses:Where should I start? The motors break without warning, stranding the user. Every hirider owner I ever met has this problem and electrical problems that make the chair hard to keep under control. The chain drive takes alot of maintanence. The entire chair is made with very poor craftsmanship. After only a few days, stray bolts were falling out of the chair.
Comments:DON'T buy this chair!! Falcon sold me this lemon even though they don't even make this model anymore.(spare parts junk) If you do buy one, don't expect replacement parts any time soon! They should be ashamed to put their name on this product. At $25,000, get a permobil for a little more money. Trust me, its worth it.

Strengths:Durable, dependable, easy to maintain by myself, quick response from manufacturer for parts. Small footprint and manuverable
Weaknesses:Not good in grass or uneven/soft terrain
Comments:I've used the Highrider to practice medicine in an ER for over 10 years. Have never missed a day at work from mechanical breakdown except for one that I caused.

Susan from Philadelphia, PA submitted this review on September 4th 2002 at 09:12 PM. Susan is an end user who has over a year of experience with the product.
Strengths:Ability to stand while moving, so functional and social experiences are greatly enhanced. Incredible maneuverablity in small spaces. Small overall dimensions. Very powerful, easy to reach things standing and seating, very strong and durable, cover great distances in a day, handles variable and rough outdoor terrain. I use it to go GOLFING. Drive wheel suspension allows the chair to drive easily indoors and outdoors, all types of environments. Anotomically correct standing and seating positioning. You are not hurting yourself while standing without compressing your joints and putting unnatural strain on your leg bones. Comfortable to be in 14-15 hrs a day. 100% pressure release while standing.
Weaknesses:Like all mechanical devices, chair needs routine maintenance; as you would need to maintain a car. And it is mechanically easy to maintain and figure out. This is the good news; you can do it yourself or with the help of a friend. This is not a weakness, but a fact of life with ALL mechanical devices. Don't let yourself be fooled by the selling job of other vendors.
Comments:I use it to go GOLFING. I use it to go at least 10 miles everyday. Makes life easy in all aspects of my life; traveling in the city to/from work, at home, at work, to play golf, airplane travel, etc. Standing benefits health and social/psycho reasons as well as maneuverable to deal with all environments. This chair has changed my life to greater participation in all aspects of life, I put in 14-16 hrs per day, much greater energy to do what I want to do, not to spend time resting up, etc. I could go one. Contact me if you want to discuss.
