Chris from Santa Cruz,CA., US submitted this review on February 3rd 2013 at 10:54 PM. Chris is an end user who has over a year of experience with the product.
Strengths:This chair has been very dependable. Want to go in a straight line and it ALWAYS wanders- each and every time. This was my first power wheelchair, my second was an older Legend (good review and much faster). Since getting my second power wheelchair; the Jazzy is residing in my shower, and very dependently moves into the hall when I shower without fail and back in when I am through. Too jerky and too slow to use full time anymore.
Weaknesses:Extremely slow and difficult to control. I am less than 100 pounds but I could not keep up with very heavy people; so weight is not the problem. In comparison - my Legend exceeds factory top speed; most likely because of my lite weight.
Comments:Nice indoor wheelchair, but was terrible outside on sidewalks or driveways. It is not in use right now, but is only a spare wheelchair if and when my older Legend wheelchair fails. No headlights, no taillights, no turn signal, no horn. Very annoying being passed by everything. Had I known about the slowness and wandering I would have kept looking for my first power wheelchair.

Angela from Washington DC, USA submitted this review on March 20th 2010 at 04:47 PM. Angela is an end user who has over five years of experience with the product.
Strengths:The frame is stylish but nothing else.
Weaknesses:This is my second 1143 I purchased. I purchased my first 1143 model for college in 2001. Overall I was pleased and did not have any problems until about three years (sadly, pretty typical of all electric wheelchairs). So I bought another in 2005 and have regretted it ever since.
Within the first two months, the charger failed. I had to pay for the seat to be customized in leather because the seams kept ripping and the warranty ran out. Then the joystick quit working within 11 months of owning the chair.
I am a very active young woman and travel a to and from work. I have to replace the batteries about every four months. The batteries will just give up within a short period of time...two or three weeks.
Finally, the seat clamp is not well made and my chair wobbles back and forth.
Comments:DO NOT BUY.

Strengths:I can go over curbs easy. Can hole a lot. Faster paced. Love the ease of cleaning.
Weaknesses:Battery life should be longer no matter what.
Comments:I have a light weight and I get scared using it because I have a 3 year ols on the jazzy it has a seatbelt and I love that I can buckle us both in for safety.

ROBERT from WEST WARWICK, RHODE ISLAND 02893 submitted this review on September 20th 2004 at 12:05 PM. ROBERT is an end user who has over a year of experience with the product.
Strengths:I use the chair quite a bit where ever I go an it is strong enough an have no Problems getting to where I want to go, including across lawns.
Weaknesses:The only weakness I find is the batteries, I do put alot of wear on the batteries and find I have to replace them yearly or sometimes just under a year.
Comments:Overall the Jazzy 1143 is a very durable and very easy chair to use and maintain. I highly recommend this chair.

Michele from San Diego CA USA submitted this review on May 24th 2004 at 05:38 PM. Michele is an end user who has over a year of experience with the product.
Strengths:Itís an elevated designed chair to begin with and a power elevating option that is handy for reaching high places. Has a turning radius of 19.5 in. with a weight capacity of 300 lbs. The chair has a range up to 25 miles.
Weaknesses:It is poorly designed with two 12-volt batteries that arenít large enough for this heavy a chair and doesnít allow for larger batteries. All I could do, after replacing the batteries twice by the second year, was to have a different type of battery installed that had a longer life.
I get stuck in the gutters maneuvering from the street UP on sidewalk curbs. Tried this action in reverse and succeeded in flipping the chair over backwards.
The wheels are pneumatic, and to date have had the 9-inch rear ďcastersĒ wheels replaced with solid after I got a flat tire. The ride was marginally rougher. The 12.5-in., center-mounted, drive-wheels are also pneumatic, solid tires are optional.
Max. speed is 4.25 mph. Have had lower-centered power chairs leave me in their dust.
The 8-in. solid, front mounted anti-tip wheels are forever striking objects and knocking them over because itís hard to judge their protrusion.
Comments:I had this chair for four years and wouldn't buy another one.
